Interact is Rotary International’s service club for Teenagers in Middle and High School. Interact clubs are self-governing and self-supporting, but are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs which provide support and guidance. There are over 300,000 Interactors in more than 130 countries and geographical areas.

Our Interact club, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hampton, NH, was formed to fill an increasing need for youth community service in the school and its surroundings, and currently has approximately 20 members. Interact is a service club for young people ages 12-18. Interact goals include developing leadership skills and personal integrity, demonstrating helpfulness and respect for others, understanding the value of individual responsibility and hard work and advancing international understanding and goodwill.

The Interact Club of Hampton Academy was officially chartered in March of 2015, with a potluck supper for all Interactors, their parents, and Rotary friends and an induction ceremony, where their banner, bell, and pins were presented.

Hampton Rotary normally has a liaison person (who recently moved away) for the Hampton Academy Interact club, and when a new person is named they will be listed here. The Rotary Advisor is Rick Considine, a long time Hampton Rotarian, and the Faculty Advisor is Angela Bowen. The Officers and Board of Directors are as follows:

President V. President Secretary Historian
Jacob Sakelarios Colby Petalas Lance Trinceri Jack Ellis

Board Members: Lucas Rayder, Lance Higgihs, Miles Dinardo, Griffin O'Keefe

Meetings: The Officers and Board meet often with Mrs. Bowen & Mr. Considine, and the Club meets most Thursdays from 2;30 to 3:30PM after school, starting 22 September 2016. At least once per month, a Speaker of Interest addresses the club, and once per month we have a “fun meeting”!

Fund Raisers: The Club held a very succesful “Lunch Detention” Fundraiser for the second year in a row, and plans to do so again this year. Well known school and community leaders will be on stage during all 3 lunches in "Lunch Detention", accused of some humorous and ludicrous infraction. These nine individuals (3 to a lunch session) contribute their time to help us raise funds for our International Project as well as Club operations. They phone relatives, friends, and co-workers for contributions to get them released. Students can also contribute to get them released and when they reacn $100 in donations, they are free to leave. However, most of them stay and raise considerably more than that!! Everyone has fun participating in this, and, hopefully it will raise significant cash for our International project again. Other smaller fundraisers are held throughout the school year for donations to local charities.

Projects: The Club will be choosing their 2016-17 International Project in the coming weeks....more on this to follow. The Club did a “Beach Cleanup” on North Beach, Hampton in concert with the Blue Ocean Society last October, collecting over 65 POUNDS OF TRASH!!. They also cleaned up and refurbished the Rotary Playground across from Lane Library in October as a joint project with Hampton Rotarians and plan to do both these projects again this year. We also would like to plant flowers in the garden at the corner of Academy Avenue and High Street next Spring among other projects.

Just below is a picture of some of our group, and below that a video of our Playground cleanup:
