Dear Hampton Academy Families,

On behalf of the staff at Hampton Academy, we welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year.  We are looking forward to working closely with you to achieve our common goal of providing all students with the best possible education.  It is our desire that each child emerges with a quality education that maximizes his/her potential and enhances individual self-esteem in his/her future endeavors.  We encourage and welcome frequent communication between school and home to ensure success during these formative years.

The Vision: Hampton Academy strives to meet the academic, social, emotional, and physical developmental needs of all students while inspiring lifelong learning.

The Mission: Hampton Academy’s mission is to provide an environment where all students are encouraged to reach their academic, artistic, social and physical potential in order to become productive citizens in an ever-changing world. This mission is best achieved when staff, families, and community share the responsibility of educating our adolescents.

Our renovation project is nearing the midway point. Our addition is almost ready.  Last week at the Hampton School Board meeting, a decision was made to move students and staff into our new addition on October 26.  Over the next eight weeks, the finishing touches and safety inspections will be completed.  I will be updating you on progress and the plan for the move in the weeks to come.  For planning purposes, our sixth-grade students will be at environmental camp from October 22-26.  There will be no school for 7th and 8th-grade students on Friday, October 26.  Teachers will be setting up their classrooms and we will welcome students to our beautiful new areas on Monday, October 29.

As many of you are aware, we have moved to competency-based grading for students.  Competencies provide more specific feedback to students and parents regarding strengths and areas of improvement within a subject area.  We have scheduled three curriculum/listening sessions for parents so that we can better help you understand the differences, advantages and changes within the new report card and our PowerSchool platform.  The first session is Thursday, September 20, at 6:30 PM in the dining hall.  The second session will be scheduled in October and the third in January.

Middle school years present new experiences for students and parents.  Adolescents often strive for independence, but still need the support and structure at school and home to become responsible young adults.  We welcome your involvement in school and at home.

Communication occurs through a variety of resources which include weekly updates from teams and teachers, weekly updates (Wednesday/Friday) and monthly newsletters from the administration.  These help to keep families apprised of events, activities, and cancellations that occur throughout the school year.  Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions at 926-2000.

With our highly qualified staff and a strong partnership with parents and community members, we are confident your child will have a safe and successful educational experience at Hampton Academy.

Important Information

Hampton Academy has its own addendum for the district handbook, as it addresses topics specific to middle school students.  Please take time as a family to read and review both the district and HA student handbook (both on our school website).  There are multiple other forms coming home for you to complete and return as well.  Please take time to read, sign, and return all forms by Friday, September 7th.  Please review the following:
Students succeed when they are in school and arrive on time.  Homeroom begins at 7:37 AM.  Please notify the office prior to the start of school if your child will not be in attendance that day.

For the safety of our students, a new temporary parent drop off has been constructed in our old bus loop. Parents may enter via Winnacunnet Road or Academy Avenue and proceed to the drop-off loop.
School buses will be using Academy Ave to drop-off and pick up. State law requires drivers stop for school buses displaying their flashing stoplights. For students’ safety, please do not pass school buses while loading or unloading.
Emergency Contact Information (in student first-day packet) must be on file in case of medical or other emergencies, and should be updated immediately following any changes in contact information.  Information may be updated directly on the parent portal, in writing, by fax, or through email to rrowley@sau90.org.
The use of cell phones or electronic devices is prohibited during the school day without permission from a staff member.  Cell phones must be turned off and secured in lockers or may be left at the office.

Changes in after school bus transportation must be approved by administration through a written, faxed, or emailed notification signed by a parent or guardian.
Please be sure to talk to your children about the many forms of bullying, i.e.; texting, social media etc.  Bullying is a serious matter and will not be tolerated at HA.
